In February of 2010, COD Photography Program alumna Roksolana Tymiak-Lonchyna showed her photographs at the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago. That same, exhibition, entitled “With Love to Ukraine” has now traveled back “home” to Kiev, Ukraine to be shown there. The exhibition features images that depict people, nature and architecture around the world and showing the planet’s essential oneness.
Roksolana was born in America in a Ukrainian family. By profession she is a dentist, but after studying photography at College of DuPage, she added the title professional photographer to her resume. In 1992 Roksolana went to the Ukraine on a humanitarian medical mission. Since that visit, she often visits in Kiev, Lviv and other areas of the country.
Speaking about her exhibition, Roksolana says, “This is a collection of many of my photos from 2002 to the present. I photograph what I’m curious about and what I think is necessary to collect and archive. Most of the photographs in this exhibition – people, people at work, landscapes, architecture, orphans have the mission of showing viewers that Ukraine has much in common with other countries. All over the world, people live and work and grow the same flowers.”
