The College of DuPage Photography Club started the new year with a visit to Calumet Photo in Oakbrook on Sunday, January 9th.

Roy Flieth of Calumet gave an informative presentation that covered the do’s and don’ts for buying tripods and mono-pods. He discussed several brands, weight limits, and materials.

Photo Club members also got hands on time with Lensbabies and good information from Lensbaby Rep Janessa Bullen, “They truly have advanced with so many different lenses. It was a fun talk,” said Photo Club member Bill Guest.

Flieth also began to give members some basic information on flashes,  but he ran short on time, “He will cover flashes more in depth the next time we visit,” said Guest.

Flieth also explained the many student discounts Calumet and many of the manufacturers offer on products. “If you are looking for anything photographic, stop in and talk to Roy,” said Guest. “He will explain the student discounts to anyone interested. All you need is a printed copy listing the classes you are enrolled in this semester. You can easily print this through COD’s My Access.”

The Photo Club’s next meting will be March 13th at COD. “It will feature Gayle Stevens showing us some awesome alternative processes,” said Guest. “Don’t miss it! Thanks to all those who showed up at Calumet. For those who couldn’t make it, we will be doing another meeting there in the future,” he said.

Look for Photo Club announcements on the Photolist and posted signs in the Photo Department. The Photo Club welcomes new members. For more information, e-mail Bill Guest at
